Workshops


The Office of the Vice Provost for Academic and Faculty Affairs, in conjunction with the University Committee on Appointments, Promotions, and Tenure, organizes workshops throughout the year to provide guidance and transparency about the dossier preparation process.

UCAPT 4th Year and Above Tenure-Track Faculty Workshop
This workshop will explain the tenure decision process and the development of the dossier, including the responsibilities of the junior faculty member and the role of his or her school and/or department. It will also address expectations for achieving tenure and promotion with regard to scholarship, grants, teaching, creative work, and other scholarly, artistic, and educational endeavors. Current and past members of the University Committee on Appointments, Promotions, and Tenure (UCAPT) will lead the workshop and answer questions.

UCAPT Department and Promotion Committee Chairs Workshop
This workshop will detail the dossier preparation process for all USC department and promotion committee chairs. Current and past members of the University Committee on Appointments, Promotions, and Tenure (UCAPT) and the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic and Faculty Affairs will discuss the intricacies of dossier preparation, including identifying metrics of evaluation, preparing quantitative data, and communicating with referees. Attendees are encouraged to bring comments and questions, as well as to share best practices.

UCAPT 1st-3rd Year Tenure-Track Faculty Workshop
This workshop will address expectations for probationary faculty members with regard to scholarship, grants, teaching, creative work, and other scholarly, artistic, and educational endeavors. Current and past members of the University Committee on Appointments, Promotions, and Tenure (UCAPT) will lead the workshop and answer questions. They will also discuss the expectations for tenure at USC and the UCAPT Manual, the university’s guidelines on probation and tenure.
