A mentor needs to tailor his or her mentoring style to suit the students’ unique needs so as to bring out the best in each student. The mentor should celebrate the student’s successes and commiserate with the student’s setbacks. A successful mentor has to be totally honest and forthright with feedback.

Providing accurate and unbiased feedback is an important role for the mentor, and sometimes it can be difficult. Finally, the most important task of the mentor is to inspire. Inspire the students to think big. Inspire the students to aim high. Inspire the students to finally accomplish that which they never thought they were capable of.
