The worth of any scholar is not measured only by his or her research contributions.  Of equal importance—if not more so—is the mentorship of junior colleagues.  In addition, when one is lucky enough to work with such talented people, as I have, one’s own scholarship improves and a lifetime of collaboration can ensue.  Ultimately, a career of successful mentorship results in an enduring legacy beyond the printed page, and one which provides the greatest personal and professional satisfaction.
