In my view, mentoring is the natural enactment of one’s sincere desire to enable colleagues to succeed in the paths they have chosen and to attempt paths they may have dismissed or overlooked previously. Gentle prodding, listening and asking questions, being generous with one’s time, sharing resources and information, building confidence, creating bonds of support – all contribute to generating a scholarly environment based on mutual trust and respect that helps people fulfill their professional aspirations and develop their careers.
I am grateful and consider myself extremely fortunate to work with talented and bighearted colleagues where the roles of mentor and mentee are fluid. The resulting spirit of collaboration is a source of personal enrichment and professional fulfillment for all.
